Floating anchors

Floating anchors are a safety device for stabilizing and slowing down a drifting pleasure boat or small craft. The floating anchor, made from coated polyester or PVC fabric, takes the form of an unfurled parachute. Floating anchors come in different lengths, from 60 to 150 cm, depending on the size of the boat. In heavy weather or difficult sailing conditions, floating anchors moored to the boat are effective when submerged. In this way, they slow down the boat in difficulty, even in strong gusts of wind and breakers. Floating anchors are useless for standard anchoring, and should only be used in the event of navigational danger. Lightweight and quick to set, the floating anchor is released into the sea once it has been moored to the boat and all sails have been lowered.
