Choosing the right children's sailing equipment: the key to a successful outing!

The key to a successful sailing trip is often played out even before the start, when it comes to choosing the right equipment. Weather conditions can be hostile, so effective protection is essential, especially for the very young. To this end, the most effective method found to date is the three-layer rule.

How to properly equip your child for the sea

The three-layer rule is a simple method of layering several complementary layers for optimum protection. Each layer has a specific role to play. The first layer is the sous-couche enfant , which must above all be comfortable. To ensure this, we recommend materials such as merino wool (for cold weather) or polyester (lighter and more breathable). The second layer is the polaire enfant , whose aim is to ensure the best possible thermal comfort. The fleece's grammage (density) is the most important consideration. Finally, the third layer: the veste de quart enfant . This final layer must keep your child dry during showers, and the main criterion is waterproofness, measured in millimeters. For effective protection, we recommend waterproofness of at least 10,000 mm.
