Born in Quimper, in Brittany, in 1938 under the will of Walter hubacher, "La bonneterie d'armor" is a company 100% Made in France. His goal in creating armor lux was to manufacture high quality underwear and textiles. Realizing that this specialty is quite limited, the company diversifies into the creation of clothing, such as the famous sweater wool or cotton stripes for fisherman and sailor. It is then that the marinière appears as a symbol of the brand. Real standard-bearer of armor lux, this mariniere will even be part of the logo of the brand. It will dress both men and women.
Specialized in the manufacture of marine sweaters and underwear, the company wishes to diversify by launching its first ready-to-wear collection in 1970. In 1982, Armor Lux opened its first stores and saw its number of employees rise to 600. The competition of the foreign countries to France pushes the signboard to reduce thereafter this number to 450 people.
In 1993, the company experienced serious financial difficulties and was sold for 5 million euros. The purchase is made by two Breton, Jean-guy le floch and Michel gueguen. Armor Lux then sees its economy revived following the good decisions of the two men who create new brands such as Terre & Mer, Armor Kids or Armor Baby.
In 2012, the company has known a wind of freshness following the famous photo of the former minister Arnaud montebourg proudly wearing a mariniere cotton Armor Lux to promote the made in France. Indeed, Armor Lux relies on a production in France, in its factory in Quimper, Brittany. Today, the Armor Lux group includes 5 other sister companies.
