The female socket is used for the electrical connection of your boat trailer. The socket is used with a male end cap.
The differences between the 7-pin and 13-pin sockets are as follows. The 7-pin sockets are only used for basic lighting (parking lights, brake lights, turn signals...). This is more than enough to hitch a boat trailer. The 13 pin sockets , can also be used for basic lighting , but they can also be used to provide a 12 volt DC power supply available on the hitch socket. The 13-pin sockets will mainly be used for a power supply for example on board a caravan.
