The watch jackets and the 3 layer rule

The success of an outing at sea is often determined before the departure. Indeed, the choice of equipment plays an important role in the success of your outing, and it is important to understand how to best protect yourself from the elements. The 3-layer rule is now recognized as the most effective way to protect yourself from cold and wet. The first layer should be comfortable (under layer), the second should keep you warm (fleece), and the last should protect you from the rain(shift jacket).

The different types of children's jackets

The watch jacket must protect your child from the rain. Its objective is not to keep him warm but to prevent water from entering. The first characteristic to look at when you choose a child's watch jacket is therefore the waterproofness. Because if all watch jackets have the same purpose, they do not all offer the same protection. A coastal watch jacket will be effective in a rain shower but will take on water in prolonged heavy rains. On the other hand, an offshore jacket will be able to withstand long showers. For an offshore watch jacket, it is better to opt for a waterproofness of at least 15,000 mm, to ensure a high performance protection. Another criterion to take into account is breathability because some maneuvers are very sporty and require good moisture evacuation.

To choose the right children's jacket, it is important to take into account two criteria: waterproofing and breathability. These two criteria determine whether a watch jacket is coastal or offshore. Whatever your sailing style, you will find the right child's watch jacket for your needs on Nautisports. com!
