Balise de détresse EPIRB
Why get an EPIRB?
The EPIRB Beacons are designed to ensure the safety of the boat, and therefore of the entire crew. It is opposed to the PLB BeaconsThe EPIRBs are used to ensure the safety of the entire crew. The acronym EPIRB stands for "Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons", which means "Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons".Marine Electronics. The EPIRB1 Ocean Signal Beacon is the essential beacon to equip your boat at a lower cost. This type of equipment has a great durability: the Ocean Signal battery has a life span of 10 years. If it has been triggered, an EPIRB battery lasts on average 48 hours, the time it takes for help to arrive.
How does an EPIRB work ?
It is important to ensure that the beacon is transmitting on 406 MHz because COSPAS-SARSAT no longer processes signals transmitted on 121.5 MHz. However, this frequency will be maintained on the 406 MHz beacons and will be used to guide the rescue resources once they arrive at the scene of the disaster. The EPIRB GLOBALFIX V4 from ACR allows to occupy these different channels.
Recommendations for the use of an EPIRB
EPIRBs must be recoded with an MMSI. Like many of the equipment ofMarine electronicsAs a default, they only have a serial number which is not identifiable and which, in case of activation of the beacon, will not offer the possibility to the rescue centers to have information about the vessel. It is therefore necessary to contact a professional to request the MMSI. Once obtained, the MMSI must be integrated into the beacon coding. EPIRBs comply with COSPAS-SARSAT specifications. This compliance is evidenced by an approval number (Type Approval or TAC) and corresponds to a three digit number.
